All knitters, spinners, weavers and fiber artists of every stripe are invited to the Halcyon Yarn “Ruby” 40th Anniversary Homecoming Party, Sunday July 17, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A community gathering plus live music, sheep to shawl demonstrations, vendors, yarn/fiber tastings, giveaways and special “ruby” coupons.
Oceans of color, cool blues for summer heat, cozy yarns for breezy evening outings. If you have never been to Maine or the city of Bath, consider making the trip to visit the many independent businesses, shipyard heritage, plus the yarn and fiber emporium that is Halcyon Yarn in the “City of Ships.”
Founder and owner Halcyon Blake (yes, that really is her name) chose to relocate her business 40 years ago to this walkable small city on the rugged northeastern coast of the United States. And Halcyon believes in being an active part of her community – she recently received the Shep Lee Award for Community Service from the Maine Institute for Family Business – and marked the occasion by then giving 10% of sales back to community organizations to celebrate the honor.

The noteworthy yarn and fiber company blog is written by dedicated and talented staff members, who comprise a walking human library on fiber arts. One post details the therapeutic benefits of teaching weaving to children (or adults), while other entries tempt with yarn sales or reviews, book recommendations, weaving tips, local artisan products and highlights of uncommon patterns.
